This weekend, the Constitutionalism Research Institute at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) held a NCHR supported workshop on gender equality and human rights for 23 Chinese university teachers in Shenzhen, China. The aim of the workshop was to inspire more Chinese university teachers to include gender equality in their teaching activities.

Supported by the Norwegian Center of Human Rights(NCHR), partner institutions in China have over the past few weeks organized a number of seminars and workshops to promote business human rights due diligence.

The NCHR has supported the publication of three Chinese books about how to counter domestic violence against children, against women and against the elderly. The books were launched on July 13 with a seminar about the implementation of the Chinese anti-domestic violence law.

En ny kinesisk lærebok om kjønn og menneskerettigheter er utgitt i Kina. Boken er den første av sitt slag og er skrevet av en gruppe kinesiske forskere og sivilsamfunnsrepresentanter med god kjennskap til likestilling og menneskerettighetsspørsmål.

SIGNAL is a project on the legal aspects of internet security hosted at the Norwegian Research Center for Computers and Law (NRCCL). SIGNAL examines changes in legal frameworks for internet security by focusing on established, new and proposed legal security requirements – at both international and national levels – directed at critical internet infrastructure (CII) and cloud computing.

The NCHR supported the 2nd annual China Forum on Business and Human Rights in November. This Forum contributes to the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) in China and provides a platform for communication and dialogue between the academic community and the industries that have corporate supply chain responsibility.

This week, more than 90 Chinese researchers and university teachers from all over China convened to attend a summary workshop for a NCHR and RWI supported teacher training project on gender and human rights.

The NCHR has since 2017 supported Norwegian experts to teach in the annual Human Rights Summer School at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). This summer, NCHR director Professor Bård A. Andreassen and NCHR Professor Gentian Zyberi gave online lectures in the Summer School from 7-15 July.

A new textbook on gender and human rights issues was recently published in China. The book is the first of its kind and was written by a group of Chinese researchers and civil society representatives with special knowledge about gender equality and human rights issues.

From 15-18 August, the Norwegian Center for Human Rights (NCHR) welcomed an expert group from China to discuss new developments in field of business and human rights. The weeklong study tour offered a unique opportunity for Chinese and Norwegian experts to discuss Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) legislation in China, Norway and other countries.

To mark the International Women’s Day on Monday 8 March, the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) would like to point to our Chinese partners important work towards gender equality in China. Raising awareness about domestic violence in China, contributing to better education on gender and human rights in Chinese universities and publication of the first Chinese textbook on gender and human rights are some of the achievements our Chinese partners have made with the support of the NCHR.
