Long-term contracts are important tools to secure productivity and welfare in today’s society. However, they give rise to complex legal questions since they on the one hand tend to ensure stable business conditions and on the other hand must allow a flexible adaptation of the contract's content to ever-changing circumstances.

The EU Commission's proposal for a Common European Sales Law (CESL) and the European Law Institute (ELI) Statement on this proposal bring up many of the core issues. There will be discussion after brief introductions.
