Meera Nair will will speak on the topic "Rephrasing the Social and Legal identity: A retort to the stigma of Illegitimacy".

Nair is a Research Scholar at National Law University Delhi, who went on to do her Bachelors and Masters in Law with a dual specialization in human rights law and commercial law from the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University (CUSAT), Cochin, Kerala. Her doctoral study is on the topic “Revisiting the concept of Illegitimacy of children in the backdrop of changes in social, personal and reproductive rights”.

She has worked as Assistant Professor in various Universities from 2011-2015. She has also worked as legal researcher with the Election Commission of India, New Delhi and served as legal consultant for DAKSH, a civil society organisation that undertakes research and activities to promote accountability and better governance in India.

One of her core areas of teaching has been constitutional law and human rights.

Her main areas of research include social and legal anthropology, human rights and constitutional law. She has attended various national and international conferences and workshops and also published articles in law periodicals.

The lunch is co-organized by the research groups Legal History and Welfare, rights and discrimination (VERDI)
