Background
Jukka Mähönen has been a Professor of Law at the University of Oslo from 2015. Jukka is responsible of law and economics in the Master and PhD programmes of Law at the Faculty of Law, one of the deputy heads of Research Group Sustainability Law and leader of UiO:Nordic research project Futuring Sustainable Nordic Business Models. Jukka was the risk manager at the Horizon 2020 research project Sustainable Market Actors for Responsible Trade (SMART) (2016-2020).
Previously he worked at the University of Turku, in 2002-2015 as a Professor of Civil Law and in 2010-2015 as the Dean of the Faculty of Law. Jukka holds LL.M. (University of Turku and Berkeley Law), M.Sc. (Econ.) (Turku School of Economics), LL.Lic. (Turku) and LL.D. (Turku) degrees. After defending his dissertation and before his academic career he worked for a while as senior officer at the Finnish Ministry of Justice. He teaches as a visiting professor (title of a docent) of law and economics at the University of Helsinki and at the University of Eastern Finland. From beginning of 2019 he has been Professor of Cooperative Law at the University of Helsinki.
Jukka's research interests focus on company and securities law, accounting and auditing law, as well as law and economics. He is currently involved in research projects concerning accounting law, company law, sustainability law and European economic law. He was a founding member and has served as a board member in the Finnish Corporate Law Association and Finnish Lawyers’ Association, in the latter being the chair of the board. Jukka has also been a member of the EU Commission’s Advisory Group on Company Law and Corporate Governance. In addition, he has served in various committees of the Finnish Government in the fields of corporate law (including foundation and association law), property law, tax law and accounting and auditing law. Until 2015, he was also the chairman of the Audit Board of Finland. In 2018-2020, Jukka served as a non-executive board member at the University of Turku.

Research Projects
In Finland, Jukka is a principal investigator of the Academy of Finland financed research project Shaping, fixing and making markets via IPR: regulating sustainable innovation ecosystems (SHARE). Previously, he was a project leader in the Academy of Finland financed project ECOHERENCE – Reconciling economic and non-economic values in a multi-polar society (2013-2016).
In Oslo he is the leader of UiO:Nordic research project Futuring Sustainable Nordic Business Models. He has been a member of the Research Council of Norway financed project Sustainable Companies Project and the EU framework program Horisont 2020 financed project Sustainable Market Actors for Responsible Trade (SMART) (2016-2020), both led by professor Beate Sjåfjell, the head of Research Group Sustainability Law.
