Bakgrunn

Kaufmann har en doktorgrad i kriminologi fra Universitetet i Hamburg. Oppgaven hennes omhandler sikkerhetspraksis og resiliens i internettsamfunn. Hun har vært stipendiat og seniorforsker hos Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). Hennes arbeid er med i å utforme feltet "Digital Kriminologi". Mareiles postdoktor-prosjekt undersøkte hvordan digital teknologi og praksis påvirker overvåkning og strategier som svarer på overvåkning. Hun ble invitert som ekspert i Likestillings- og Diskrimineringsombudet og i det Norske Justis- og Beredskapsdepartmentet. For tiden jobber hun på ERC-prosjektet "Digital DNA" og på NFR's Unge Forskertalent-prosjekt "Bodies of Evidence".

Tidligere har hun vært gjesteforsker ved the Political Science Department at the University of Essex, the Norwegian Center at the University of California in Berkeley, the Center for Security Studies ved ETH Zürich, the International Centre for Comparative Criminology ved Université de Montréal, Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) i Berlin, Centre for Advanced Security Theory (CAST) hos University of Copenhagen og Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society i Berlin.

Mareile er hovedforfatteren til Predictive Policing and the Politics of Patterns. British Journal of Criminology (BJC) og Centre for Crime and Justice Studies har utnevnt artikkelen til vinner av Radzinowiczprisen 2019. Hun er forfatter til Resilience, Emergencies and the Internet (Routledge, 2017) og Ethnic Profiling and Counter-Terrorism (Lit-Verlag, 2010). Hun har vært gjesteredaktør for følgene spesialnummer:

Prosjekter

Mareile jobber for tiden på flere prosjekter. Det inneholder ERC Starting Grant "The changing relationships between digital technologies, DNA and evidence" og det Unge Forsker Talent Stipend "Bodies of Evidence". På PRIO er hun seniorforsker på to prosjekter: en som studerer Kinas og Indias biometriske grenser, og en som utforsker krigsføring med kunstig intelligens.

Undervisning

Mareile ledet emne KRIM2957/4957 (pause pga prosjektarbeid). Hun holdt forelesninger i KRIM2000 og KRIM1300 og jobber med veiledning. Mareile ønsker studenter som har spørsmål om hennes arbeid velkommen, men ber studentene å ta kontakt med henne for en avtale.
