Background

Carola Lingaas recived her lic.iur. (i.e. Master's degree) from the University of Zürich (Switzerland) in 1999 and completed an LL.M. in Public International Law at the University of Oslo in 2005.

From 1999-2002, Carola worked for the Public Prosecutor's Office, the District Court and a law firm in Zürich (Switzerland), before joining the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 2002. From 2002-2003, Carola worked as a field delegate in South Sudan.

From 2006-2012, Carola worked as a coordinator for the prison visiting service and for IHL at the Oslo Red Cross. In 2012, she joined the Norwegian Red Cross, first as a Senior Advisor for prison visiting service (national level), then as a programme coordinator for Asia.

She took up her position as a research fellow in July 2013. From January 2014-December 2014, Carola was a member of the PhD Council.

 

Academic Interests

Carola wrote her PhD on the concept of race in international criminal law. The crime of genocide, persecution and apartheid all contain the notion of race and were closely analyzed.

Teaching

Carola teaches the course in public international law (kurs i folkerett, JUS2111, bachelor level), international criminal law (JUS5570, master level), international humanitarian Law (JUS5730, TULSA) and public international law (JUS5540, TULSA). She also supervises master theses.

From 2006-2011, Carola held a yearly lecture in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Public International Law at the National Emergency Planning College (NUSB), Norway. This lecture comprised of 4 lessons for Master students (crisis and conflict management) and also included guidance in writing Master’s theses.
