The project is a part of the research group Companies, Markets, Society and the Environment.

Objectives

The primary objective of the project is to study sustainable tax governance in developing countries in the era of global fiscal transparency. The project assumes that fiscal transparency is of utmost importance also for developing countries, in order to protect the tax base and increase tax revenue and to promote economic development and tax justice.

A further objective is to stimulate academic research in this field in all the collaborating countries.

In particular, the project aims at building up a fruitful North South dialogue between North research units located in Europe and South research units located in South America and Africa. The Project also aims at fostering South South dialogue by pairing South American and African Countries as well as bringing together less developed economies with some emerging B.R.I.C.S Countries.

Each South unit will organise parallel seminars addressing the issues identified by the research agenda, the results will then be addressed in general yearly conferences. Such an approach will enable the project to combine in depth Country case studies with a broader international perspective.

Outcomes

The project participants aim at publishing the results of their research in specialized tax journals an other publications around the world, in different languages.

Research results will be communicated to Ministries of Finance in the participating countries.
