Background

Carola Lingaas recived her lic.iur. (i.e. master's degree) from the University of Zürich (Switzerland) in 1999 and completed an LL.M. in Public International Law at the University of Oslo in 2005.

From 1999-2002, Carola worked for the Public Prosecutor's Office, the District Court and a law firm in Zürich, before joining the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 2002. From 2002-2003 Carola worked as a field delegate in South Sudan during the second civil war.

From 2006-2012, Carola worked as a coordinator for the prison visiting service and for IHL at the Oslo Red Cross. In 2012, she joined the Norwegian Red Cross, first as a Senior Advisor for prison visiting service (national level), then as a programme coordinator for Asia.

She took up her position as a research fellow in July 2013. From January to December 2014, Carola was a member of the PhD Council.

 

Academic Interests

Carola is writing her PhD on the "Concept of Race in International Criminal Law", with a special emphasis on the definition of the term 'racial' in the crime of genocide.

 

Teaching

Carola teaches public international law in the course JUS2111 (kurs i offentlig rett, http://www.uio.no/studier/emner/jus/jus/JUS2111/), as well lecturing on the crime of genocide and on crimes against humanity for the master's course in International Criminal Law (JUS5570, http://www.uio.no/studier/emner/jus/jus/JUS5570/).

Carola also functions as a supervisor for master theses.
