Academic Interests

I am currently working on a PhD project on accountability mechanisms of international organizations in cases where the rights of individuals are violated. The overarching research question is whether the accountability mechanisms of international organizations that are available to individuals are sufficient.

Higher education and employment history

Stian Øby Johansen graduated with a "Master i rettsvitenskap" (L.L.M.) from the University of Oslo in 2012. His Master's thesis, entitled The European Union's accession to the ECHR: As Seen from Strasbourg, was written while he was a research assistant at the Centre for european law. During the summer of 2011 he participated in The Hague Academy of International Law Summer Program in Public International Law.

After graduating he first worked as a research assistant with the MultiRights project at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights through the summer of 2012. Then he worked as an associate in Advokatfirmaet Hjort DA from September 2012 until he rejoined the Centre for European Law as a PhD fellow in March 2013.
