PluriCourts Lunch: Acceptance as an objective of international environmental justice
Birgit Peters, guest researcher at PluriCourts, will address part of the question whether and how international participation procedures lead to the overall acceptance of environmental projects, and thus to a reduction in court proceedings. To this end, she will illustrate the meaning of acceptance and situate the purpose of acceptance in the context of further purposes, which participatory procedures may unfold in environmental matters. The presentation will provide an overview over a selected range of provisions in international environmental treaties, such as the Espoo Convention, or the CBD, which highlight the topic of acceptance in international environmental law. It will end with a note on the possible limitations to acceptance as one of the purposes of participation in environmental governance.
