Danish Reform Proposal of the ECtHR Jeopardizes Minority Rights

PluriCourts Co-Directors Geir Ulfstein and Andreas Føllesdal published an op-ed in the Norwegian newspaper Klassekampen. Read the op-ed (in Norwegian; full text pdf).

The Danish Chairmanship of the Council of Europe plans to reform the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Ulfstein and Føllesdal argue that the reform suggestion aims at restraining the powers of the ECtHR, and to increase govenrments' control, in particular in issues relating to asylum and immigration.

In a second letter, Ulfstein and Føllesdal responded to the Secretary of State in the Department of Justice, Sveinung Rotevatn.
