Two visiting scholars from China, Ding Peng from Wuhan University and Wang Kun from Guangzhou University together with Cecilie F. Bakke, director of the China Programme at the NCHR, talked about how human rights is taught in China to the Master students in Educational Leadership at the Department of Teacher Education and School Research.
This seminar with James Nickel explores some recent developments that have combined to make recent years a bad time for human rights.
The presentation will begin with a few ideas from the speaker's recent essay, "What Future for Human Rights?".
NORDEMs training in international applied human rights work will be held at Radisson Blu Park Hotel 21-23 September.
Bernt Hagtvet is one of the editors of the book "The black book of genocides" ("Folkemordenes svarte bok"), which was published in a new edition in 2014.
Short introduction by director Inga Bostad, Hagtvet will present key findings and conclusions for 25 minutes and Gentian Zyberi will give prepared comments for 10 minutes, and there will be time for general discussion.

Professor William A. Schabas is professor of international law at Middlesex University in London. He is also professor of international human law and human rights at Leiden University, emeritus professor of human rights law at the National University of Ireland Galway and honorary chairman of the Irish Centre for Human Rights.
The UN’s new Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Cambodia professor Rhona Smith is visiting Oslo. On 15th of June during the lunch seminar she will give a brief about the human rights situation in Cambodia and issues related to her new mandate.

Dr Seira Tamang is in the Executive Board of the think-tank Martin Chautari in Kathmandu and a renown political scientist and commentator to current affairs in Nepal.
She is in Oslo and will talk at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights. This will be a rare opportunity to get a first-hand account of the recent tragic developments in Nepal and the authorities’ and politicians’ response to the events.

The Norwegian Centre for Human Rights welcomes you to a presentation by John Kamm, Executive Director and founder of the NGO Dui Hua Foundation, where he looks back and sums up 25 years of active promotion of human rights issues in China.
The Third and final trial lecture in a series in accordance with a process of appointing a new scholar to the NCHR academic staff.
Based on experiences and examples from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), former NORDEM secondees will present viewpoints on conditions and challenges for effective development of Rule of Law. Tone Bærland from The National Police Directorate will highlight effective methodologies and approaches for strengthening the capacity of national justice actors.

I løpet av februar 2015 vil et av Afrikas mest folkerike land, Nigeria, avholde valg til president, nasjonalforsamling og delstatsforsamling og i den forbindelse sender NORDEM en langtidsobservatør som vil inngå i EUs observasjonsgruppe.

NORDEM inngikk i 2013 et samarbeid med International IDEA, en mellomstatlig organisasjon som jobber for å støtte demokrati og godt styresett verden over.
Siden den gang har NORDEM, med støtte av Utenriksdepartementet, sekondert en valgekspert til IDEAs Afrikakontor i Pretoria som jobber med teknisk støtte til valgkommisjonene i regionen og analyse av valgprosessene i det sørlige Afrika.
Mandag 5. januar kl 13.00-14.00 deler Mette Bakken noen av sine erfaringer, analyser og resultater fra det siste året.
