The National institution for human rights

The National institution works to promote the implementation of the internationally agreed human rights in Norway.

Main activities

The National institution works with research and study, monitoring, consultancy, education and information concerning the human rights situation in Norway.

Monitoring

The monitoring occurs particularly through statements and commentaries to Norway’s reporting to international organs. As a national institution, the NCHR has published a yearbook on human rights in Norway since 2004.

Courses and seminars

The National institution arranges seminars, courses and conducts lectures concerning human rights questions related to Norwegian circumstances.

Networking and collaboration

Norway’s national institution is a part of the UN’s network of national institutions for human rights, and is working closely with the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva.

The National institution collaborates with similar entities in the research community, volunteer organisations and international and national organs.

The National institution has an advisory committee with members from a broad spectrum of ombudsmen, organisations and participants from civil society.
