To strengthen human rights education and research at law schools in the western provinces of China, the NCHR China Programme, in cooperation with Chinese partners, have arranged annual two-week training courses on international human rights law for Chinese university teachers. Talented participants get the chance to visit Hong Kong to deepen their research on human rights.
To contribute to more well-informed media reporting on issues related to human rights, discrimination and equal employment opportunities in China, the NCHR China Programme sponsored four trainings for journalists in 2009-2010. As a follow-up, four talented media workers were invited to visit Norway in May 2011.
On 27th April 2011, an open seminar on Current Topics of Human Rights Development in China was organized at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR).

On 30 November, China Programme staff gave a briefing to 11 journalists on human rights in China.
The book “Human Rights in Our Time: Multidisciplinary Perspectives” is the outcome of a project on multidisciplinary human rights research in China, organised by the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. The book was launched during a seminar organized in Oslo 2-3 November where 10 scholars from various universities in China presented their research to an audience of Scandinavian researchers and academics.
Koen Wellens, who is a senior researcher affiliated to the China Programme, has written a book about the Sino-Norwegian human rights dialog in relation to freedom of religion. The book describes the administration of religion in China and the dialog that has been between Norwegian representatives and the Chinese government. Further, it gives an overview of the Chinese religious policies in a human rights perspective. One of the conclusions of the dialog is that religion becomes more and more important in the Chinese society today and that this happens with the consent of the Chinese government.
During the Third Beijing Forum on Human Rights arranged by the China Society for Human Rights Studies in Beijing 19-21 October 2010, one representative from the China Programme at NCHR participated together with more than 70 participants including both international and Chinese representatives. The main theme of the forum was "Human Rights and Development: Rethinking Concepts, Models and Approaches". Further, specific topics such as "Scientific Development and Human Rights", "Cultural Diversity and Human Rights" and "Global Governance and Human Rights" were discussed.
In order to promote and facilitate further development of human rights education in China, the third network meeting gathering 70 law professors teaching Human Rights in China, was organised in cooperation with Guangzhou University, 17-19 September 2010.
From 9-20 August, 2010 the sixth training course on international human rights law for university teachers from western China is being held in Kunming, Yunnan province. The workshop programme is designed to improve the participants ability to teach and research on international human rights law, and to promote human rights education at their home institutes in China.
