Activities

Assignments

NORDEMs main activity is to second personnel to international assignments in the field of human rights and democratisation. Current assignments include several long term positions with the OSCE, UN and EU and shorter term assignments in election observation missions. Depending on the priorities of the OSCE, the EU and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs we may send election observers to observe the following upcoming elections.

Courses

NORDEM normally arranges two courses per year for members of NORDEM, one in human rights monitoring and democratisation and one in election observation. We also facilitate participation of our members at trainings offered by other institutions.

We may also conduct specific trainings on demand, such as an election observation training for members of the Norwegian parliament conducted in February 2011 or previous trainings in election observation for MFA trainees.

Other activities

In 2011 NORDEM has coordinated two study visits of foreign delegations in relation to the Norwegian local elections. In April, an Iraqi delegation studied the preparations for the local elections and four delegations from Iraq, Puntland, Somaliland and Turkmenistan observed the conduct of the elections in September. We have also previously faciliteted visits of international organisations and researchers in relation to Norwegian elections.
