This weekend, the Constitutionalism Research Institute at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) held a NCHR supported workshop on gender equality and human rights for 23 Chinese university teachers in Shenzhen, China. The aim of the workshop was to inspire more Chinese university teachers to include gender equality in their teaching activities.

The NCHR and the East Lake Institute for Social Advancement (EISA) is organising an online writing course about the intersectionality of disability, sexual orientation and gender identities (SOGI). Representatives from NGOs working on disability issues or SOGI issues are eligible to apply.

The NCHR International Department has had a long-term focus on domestic violence. Although domestic violence is connected to many different human rights, it was not until recently that it was recognized as a human rights issue in and of itself.

NCHR contributes to capacity building workshop on gender and human rights for Chinese university teachers.

The NCHR has supported the publication of three Chinese books about how to counter domestic violence against children, against women and against the elderly. The books were launched on July 13 with a seminar about the implementation of the Chinese anti-domestic violence law.

This weekend Dr. River Hustad from the NCHR International Department contributed to an international webinar about human rights protection of vulnerable groups during the Covid-19 pandemic.

On International Women’s Day the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) would like to highlight our Chinese partners work to achieve greater gender equality in China.  A first Chinese textbook on gender and human rights, contributing to an increase in courses on women’s rights and gender equality in Chinese universities and raising the awareness about domestic violence against women in China are among the achievements partners have made, with the support of the NCHR.

A new textbook on gender and human rights issues was recently published in China. The book is the first of its kind and was written by a group of Chinese researchers and civil society representatives with special knowledge about gender equality and human rights issues. 

The first handbook in the NCHR supported series about the implementation of the anti-domestic violence law in China is now published.

The NCHR hosted a panel on Legal Education for Equality in China during the International Conference of the Nordic Association for China Studies (NACS) in Bergen last week.

The NCHR works to enhance the knowledge and practical capacity to meet different aspects of unequal and discriminatory treatment among our partners in Asia.

Raising awareness about domestic violence in China, contributing to better education on gender and human rights in Chinese universities and publication of the first Chinese textbook on gender and human rights are some of the achievements our Chinese partners have made with the support of the NCHR.
