The Research Group’s name
After five successful years as the Research Group Companies, Markets, Society and the Environment (2012-2016), we continue our work under the name Companies, Markets and Sustainability.
The first part, Companies, entails research on various forms of organising business, with the company (with shareholders) as the dominant form, is central in our research group. We will strengthen our research also on other organisational forms, such as cooperatives, general and limited partnerships, foundations and trusts (the latter an unknown form in Norway) and state enterprises. We use ‘companies’ as a general term encompassing all these organisational forms.
The second part, Markets, entails research on relevant markets for business and finance, especially capital markets, including alternative investment structures, crowdfunding and private equity, and in light of the development of the field of integrated reporting, also the interaction between the six capitals (financial, manufactured, intellectual, human, societal, social, and environmental).
The third part, Sustainability, entails research into the role of law in regulating the impacts of business and markets on the economy, society and the environment. This area of activity aims to contribute to economic, social and environmental sustainability through our research.
This area of activity aims to contribute, through our research, to sustainability. We define sustainability as securing the social foundation for humanity, now and in the future, within planetary boundaries.
