The initiative springs out of a meeting held in 2012 at the University of Oslo for female company law scholars. A result of the meeting was an informal network for female company law scholars, which in 2015 was revitalised and given a clearer form, with the scope of the network broadened to include all female scholars in the male-dominated area of scholarship pertaining to business, including but not limited to all relevant legal disciplines, economics, political science and sociology. The new network has been given the name Daughters of Themis: International Network of Female Business Scholars.
