Current international legal debates in Denmark

Research Group on International Law is delighted to invite you to an engaging lecture featuring Astrid Kjeldgaard-Pedersen, Professor in International Law at the University of Copenhagen. She will present on the topic of Current International Legal Debates in Denmark, with a particular focus on defense cooperation agreements with the United States.

The discussion will explore Denmark's approach to negotiating these agreements, raising questions about the extent of American jurisdiction over its personnel and how this compares to other countries like Norway and Poland. Notably, Norway has implemented a legal framework allowing extensive exclusivity for U.S. criminal jurisdiction over American personnel, while Poland has negotiated more limited provisions.

As part of the event, a comparative perspective will be offered, shedding light on Norway’s experience with such agreements and drawing parallels and contrasts to Denmark’s outcomes.

This event will be conducted in English and is an excellent opportunity for legal scholars, and those interested in international law and policy to engage with these critical and timely issues.

We look forward to your participation in what promises to be a thought-provoking discussion.
