Program

10.15-1200 Professor Dr. Anja Schiemann, Universität zu Köln:

Law and Literature

The lecture presents Law and Literature as an interdisciplinary lens for exploring how legal norms, conflicts and institutions are negotiated through cultural narratives. Its main focus is “Law in Literature”: the ways literary and other artistic texts dramatize experiences of justice, authority, responsibility and legal failure, often bringing into view what doctrinal analysis leaves implicit. Against this backdrop, the talk briefly situates “Law as Literature” as a complementary perspective on legal language and interpretation, before turning to the classroom to consider what these approaches can contribute to university teaching in a European and international academic setting.
