Researchers are often met with a pressure to produce knowledge that is relevant to policy makers and society at large. How can such expectations serve to limit thinking, writing and speaking about topics that are controversial or where authorities or groups have strong vested interests in particular understandings and solutions?

This lunch seminar, hosted by the Research Group in Migration Law, will focus on these challenges. Professor, and co-chair of the group, May-Len Skilbrei will present her recent article Taking on the categories, terms and worldviews of the powerful: the pitfalls of trying to be relevant. Skilbrei will use examples from her experiences as a migration scholar to reflect on the consequences of external and internal pressures on research to be relevant and have an impact.

The seminar is moderated by Professor, and Chair of the research group, Maja Janmyr.
