The Sustainable Market Actors Research Network

The Sustainable Market Actors Research Network (the SMART Network) is a global research network with scholars from universities and research institutions all over the world. Our joint aim is to work to promote the contribution of market actors, private, public and hybrid, to sustainability. We define sustainability as securing the social foundation for humanity everywhere, now and in the future, within planetary boundaries.

The annual SMART Conference

Collaboration across academic disciplines is vital to the progress on multiple areas of corporate sustainability law research. Through a series of academic seminars and conferences, we seek to engage members of our network and other interested scholars.

The SMART Network will from 2021 onwards host an annual open SMART Conference followed by a Network Meeting for its members. At the Network Meeting, a Steering Committee will be elected for the following year. To plan towards the first Network Meeting, an Interim Steering Committee has been established, with Beate Sjåfjell, Jukka Mähönen and Eléonore Maitre-Ekern from the University of Oslo, Adam Leaver from the University of Sheffield, and Dirk Zetzsche from the University of Luxembourg.

Joining the SMART Network

The SMART Network is interested in building new collaborations and highlight overlapping research interests that can results in joint publications and new projects.

Being a member is also an opportunity to showcase your interest in sustainability-related research on market actors, and identifying potential partners for your own research. We offer institutional and individual membership.

Scholars and institutions interested in becoming members of the SMART Network, and possible contributing actively to current and future projects, may register their interest through this web form.

Coordinated by the Company Law Group

The SMART Network is coordinated by the Research Group Companies, Markets and Sustainability (the Company Law Group), at the Faculty of Law, University of Oslo.
