Abstract

In the context of Norway’s energy transition, this piece examines how the Norwegian Transparency Act—mandating human rights due diligence—may address the adverse impacts on Sámi rights resulting from companies involved in renewable energy and extractive developments on Sámi lands. It highlights the opportunities this legislation offers to strengthen the protection of Sámi rights, while also recognizing its limitations in securing a truly just transition for the Sámi people.
