Naturressurslunsj: The European Climate Law: content and lessons learned from national climate legislations

Innledning ved førsteamanuensis Catherine Banet og Thomas Muinzer.

The legislative proposal for a European Climate Law aims at enshrining into law the objective for the European Union to become climate-neutral by 2050 and establishing a framework for achieving this objective. The lunch seminar aims first at reviewing the proposal, based on the provisional agreement text. Second, the seminar will put the legislative proposal into perspective with national experiences from climate legislations.

The European Climate Law: content and lessons learned from national climate legislations.

Catherine Banet, Ass. Prof., University of Oslo, will start by introducing the main provisions of the forthcoming EU Climate Law, and link it to the forthcoming Fit-to-55 legislative package from the European Commission.

Thomas Muinzer, Dr., University of Aberdeen, will comment and compare the EU Climate Law with experiences from national climate change legislations. He recently edited the book: “National Climate Change Acts – The Emergence, Form and Nature of National Framework Climate Legislation” (Hart publishing, 2020).
