Background and research

JUDr. Peter Čuroš, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Private Law, University of Oslo. He has been dealing with the issues of fundamental rights, Rule of Law, Legal Ethics, Professional Responsibility, moral philosophy, issues of an unjust law and innovative teaching methods. For study, teaching and research activity, he spent  long-term stay at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2010 and  he worked as a visiting scholar under supervision of Vincent Bradford Professor of Law James Moliterno at the Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2015/2016. Between 2016 and 2019 he was working as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, Pavol Jozef Safarik University in Košice, where, in February 2017, he presented his dissertation thesis on the topic: Right to Disobey: Civil Disobedience.

Recently, Peter is involved in the project Judges under Stress at the Department of Private Law, where he is going to focus on the Czech Republic and Slovakia and research the core concepts of judicial profession, that are independence, accountability, impartiality, integrity and competence. He will investigate how different political regimes consider these concepts and what qualities of the judge do they expect from its justices.
