Cathryn Costello is Professor of Fundamental Rights and Co-Director of the Centre for Fundamental Rights at the Hertie School, Berlin. She is also Professor II at the Department of Criminology and Legal Sociology, University of Oslo, and Professor of Refugee and Migration Law at the Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford (on special leave).
Cathryn’s research is focused on European and international refugee and migration law. She has written extensively on EU asylum and migration law, international refugee law, and the relationship between migration and labour law. Cathryn is currently the Principal Investigator of RefMig, a five-year ERC-funded research project exploring refugee mobility, recognition and rights. At the University of Oslo, she contributes to the ASILE project. Previously, Cathryn has done studies for UNHCR, the Council of Europe and the European Parliament. She holds a DPhil in Law from the University of Oxford.
