Meropi Tzanetakis holds a doctorate in Political Science from the University of Vienna. Her doctoral thesis, ‘Operations of upper-level drug dealing within the European Union and neoliberal processes. A case study’, analyses the organisational aspects of an Austria based drug-dealing network operating within the European Union and reflects on relations between drug dealing and neoliberal restructuring in the European Union.

Meropi has previously worked as a senior researcher at the Vienna Centre for Societal Security (2013-2017) where she developed, conducted and coordinated collaborative security research projects funded by the European Commission and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology. She was a lecturer at the Department of Political Science (2009-2012) and the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology (2016-2017) at the University of Vienna, as well as at the Otto Suhr Institute of Political Science at the Free University of Berlin (2017). Meropi was a visiting researcher at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin (2016-2017) and the Jacobs University Bremen (2011).
