Faglige interesser

Kristin Bergtora Sandvik forsker på rettsliggjøring og rettslig mobilisering med fokus på teknologi og innovasjon, humanitære kriser, terror og kjønn. Hun er særlig interessert i legalitets og etterrettelighetsspørsmål. Hennes tidligere forskning har undersøkt hvordan jussen opererer i voldelige kontekster med særlig fokus på kvoteflyktningsordningen og kjønnsbasert vold i Uganda og Colombia. 

Sandvik har ledet seks prosjekter finansiert av Norges Forskningsråd. Sandvik jobber fra 2017 med de rettslige ringvirkningene etter 22 juli med fokus på Regjeringskvartalet og minnesteder. Hun leder prosjektet LAW22JULY: RIPPLES - Ringvirkninger, rettsstatlige verdier og læring  (NFR/SAMRISK) på Institutt for Offentlig Rett. Sandvik er initiativtaker til Samerettssymposiet ved UiO. Hun deltar i Vulnerability in the Robot Society (VIROS) på Institutt for Privatrett og er blant initiativtakerne til Korona og rettsstaten-nettverket. Sandvik er medlem av The Ethics Advisory Board for The Human Brain Project (neuroscience, computing, and brain-related medicine). Sandvik leder også det PRIO-baserte Do No Harm: Ethical Humanitarian Innovation and Digital Bodies (NFR/NORGLOBAL).

Undervisning

Bakgrunn

Kristin Bergtora Sandvik har en mastergrad i rettsvitenskap fra Universitetet i Oslo der hun studerte Kvinnekonvensjonen og handel med kvinner. Hun har også en mastergrad fra Harvard Law School om HIV/AIDS og menneskerettigheter (waived for tuition purposes).

Hun tok doktorgrad ved Harvard Law School i 2008 med avhandlingen “On the Everyday Life of International Law: Humanitarianism and Refugee-Resettlement in Kampala”. Sandvik har også studert sosialantropologi ved Universitetet i Oslo, og vært gjesteforsker ved Oxford Refugee Studies Centre and the Refugee Law Project (Uganda).

Sandvik ble ansatt som seniorforsker ved Fredsforskningsinstituttet (PRIO) i 2009. I 2011 var hun med på å starte "Norwegian Center for Humanitarian Studies" (NCHS), hvor hun var leder fra 2012 til 2016. Sandvik fortsetter som forsker 1 (Research Professor)  i humanitære studier ved PRIO i en 20%-stilling.
