Even Espelid has been working as a research assistant at PluriCourts since August 2020. He wrote his master thesis, “Resilient against the Recalcitrant: Decision Making and Legitimacy Borrowing at the European Free Trade Association Court”, as a part of his master’s program in Political Science at the Department of Political Science, University of Oslo. In his thesis he theorized – and empirically tested – how courts can manage the threat of noncompliance by borrowing legitimacy and authority from other more established legal bodies with well-entrenched and recognized jurisprudence, and then transplant it into their own judicial context.

The empirical basis for the thesis was the EFTA Court database, developed by PluriCourts.
