The last decade has witnessed the rise of 'legal technology' and the first steps in the 'robotisation' of law and legal institutions. The combination of expert law systems and legal statistics (1980s), digital platforms and text analysis (1990s) and developments in artificial intelligence and big data (2000s) have created the possibility for a partial transformation of legal practice. This presentation charts the rise of robolawyering and roboregulation, asks critical questions about accountability, accuracy and equity, and argues for a constructive engagement with law's technological future.
