The Judiciary and the Independence of Judges

The Ryssdal seminar is an annual event which is primarily aimed at Norwegian judges. The seminar addresses the interface between international courts and Norwegian law. The topic for the seminar this year is "The Judiciary and the Independence of Judges" and is co-hosted by the Norwegian Courts Administration.

The seminar was held for the first time in 2014 in connection with the celebration of the centenary of the birth of Rolv Ryssdal, former judge to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). The seminar honored Ryssdal and his role in the ECtHR, and focused simultaneously on the Court's importance to Norwegian law. In 2015 the theme of the Ryssdal seminar was UN human rights treaty bodies and the importance of Norwegian law.
