International Courts and Sexual and Reproductive Rights Lawfare

PluriCourts Seminar with Malcolm Langford and Siri Gloppen discussing their upcoming book on sexual and reproductive rights.

Across the globe, we see an increasing judicialization of sexual and reproductive rights (SRR) .  Due to the morally charged and politically divisive nature of these rights,  this lawfare poses particular challenges for the legitimacy of national and international courts. Focusing on international adjudication as a site of struggle, this book project analyses the legal mobilization by both 'progressive' and  'conservative' actors, international judicial behavior and outcomes in thirteen international courts and quasi-judicial bodies, and the material and political impact of SRR litigation (including counter-mobilisation and backlash).  The project is a collaborative venture between Pluricourts and the Centre on Law and Social Transformation.
