Public Accountability? Reflections on the duality of Expertise vs Accountability

Open lunch seminar with Dr. Thomas Schillemans, followed by a workshop for registered participants

More «accountability» is seen as a remedy for a range of legitimacy problems of public administrations and courts. But what do we mean by “accountability”? Recently the term has been extended in so many directions that it has lost its clear meaning, and there has been a call for bringing the term back to its “core” in order to enable a more precise understanding of how accountability works and what types of accountability is needed for different types of agents.

Dr. Thomas Schillemans (Utrecht University) is a leading scholar in this field who will introduce us to the state-of-the art in accountability theory, and present some of his recent research on “horizontal” forms of accountability.

We invite you to bring your lunch and join us for the 45 minute presentation followed by Q&A.

The second part of the workshop will discuss draft papers and is for invited participants only.
