CANCELLED: Treaty Based Mechanisms and Non-Compliance Mechanisms

Half-day seminar on treaty based mechanisms and non-compliance mechanisms.

This seminar aims to debate a research proposal by Christina Voigt, and seeks input from experts and other possible contributors.

The (main) questions to be discussed concern:

            1. Why and when (e.g. under which circumstances, with respect to what kind of legal issues) do states prefer to use in-house mechanisms (such as committees, panels, non-compliance mechanisms) to international courts and tribunals?

            2. What are the roles and functions of such treaty-based mechanisms? (e.g. "pre-emptive” avoidance of non-compliance, avoiding of disputes; facilitation of compliance and implementation etc.)

            3. What are the outcomes of processes conducted under treaty-based mechanisms? (advantages/disadvantages; legitimacy concerns?)

By invitation, please email for the project proposal short.
