Climate Change: a Hot Topic
PhD candidate Rosa Manzo discusses whether States have obligations under the Paris Agreement in the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten.
Climate change related claims have increased in national courts. One can refer, for example, to the lawsuit of Greenpeace Nordic and Nature and Youth against the Norwegian government for allowing oil companies to drill for new oil in the Arctic Barents Sea where the plaintiffs argue that Norway violates the Paris Agreement and the people's constitutional right to a healthy and safe environment for future generations.
In this Op-Ed, Manzo gives further insights into the role of national courts in enforcing the obligations of States to fight climate change.
