Investigation into the Situation of Afghanistan

Postdoctoral fellow Joanna Nicholson comments on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court's (ICC) request to initiate an investigation into alleged crimes committed in Afghanistan in the Norwegian newspaper Klassekampen.

Nicholson explains that such an investigation could lead to the examinations of the role of U.S forces in Afghanistan. This could be very controversial. She also underlines that this potential investigation could be a double-edge sword: a successful investigation could increase the legitimacy of the ICC, whereas an inconclusive investigation would clearly undermine the legitimacy of the ICC.
