Yifeng Chen is an associate professor at the Peking University Law School and assistant director of the Peking University Institute of International Law. Before joining the Peking University, he was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki from 2010-2013 and continues to serve there as a docent in international law. His fields of interest include history and theory of international law, law of international organizations, and international labour law.
As for his visiting stay at PluriCourts, Chen works on the subject “inherent powers of international courts and tribunals: certain critical reflections”. In his Wednesday Lunch Seminar presentation on June 19, he will explore the practice of international tribunals resorting to inherent powers, different theoretical justifications as well as internal tensions embedded with the inherent powers doctrine.
