MultiRights Seminar: Interpretation of Treaties by Conferences of State Parties

Prof. Georg Nolte will present his recent work at the MultiRights Seminar. Prof. Nolte is Professor for Public Law, International Law and European Law at the Humboldt University in Berlin. He is also member of the International Law Commission of the United Nations.

All welcome!

Abstract:

Treaties are not only interpreted by international and national courts, but also by their parties. Conferences of State Parties are increasingly
called upon to exercise this function. This raises questions with respect to the legal effect of their pronounciations, to procedural requirements, and to their democratic legitimacy. The issues are presented from the perspective of the International Law Commission's work on the topic of "Treaties over time".
