The Protection of Conscientious Objectors and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees as a Norm Entrepreneur

Professor Bailliet will explain the contemporaneous effort of NGOs to promote the crystallization of a new human right to conscientious objection at national and international levels.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has issued new soft law guidelines on claims related to military service that have been subject to critique and merits closer analysis. Professor Bailliet with highlight some of the strengths and weaknesses of the aforementioned guidelines as well as comment on the complexity of the UNHCR's role as a norm entrepreneur and trends within international and national courts on the matter.

 

The MultiRights seminars are organised by the MultiRights project on the multi-level human rights judiciary. They provide a forum for discussions for researchers from various backgrounds, including law, philosophy and political science. The seminars take place on a regular basis on Tuesdays and are open for all.
