Strengthening Cooperation on Human Right and Peace Education in South East Asian

Mahidol University in Thailand is a long-term partner in promoting education in human rights within the Southeast Asian region. A delegation from the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) paid a visit to the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies (IHRP), at this University in Thailand on 21-24 June.

The purpose was to meet with the new leadership at the IHRP and discuss continued cooperation under the project “Promote Human Rights and Peace Education in ASEAN/Southeast Asia”.

During the visit, NCHR met with Dr. Vachararutai Boontinand, Director of IHRP and Dr. Bencharat Sae Chua, Deputy Director of Education of Human Rights and Peace Studies, as well as Dr. Sriprapha Petcharamesree, Convener of Asian University Network-Human Rights Education Committee at IHRP.

A meeting with the University’s Vice President, Associate Prof. Dr. Chuthamanee Suthisisang, was also held to discuss the cooperation between Mahidol University and the NCHR. The cooperation between the two universities started in 2015, and has grown into a large-scale program over the last couple of years. With the lifting of corona restrictions also in Thailand, a physical visit to our partners was again possible!  

NCHR also had the opportunity during the visit to Thailand to meet with Joel Mark Baysa-Barredo, Executive Director of the SHAPE-SEA Programme Management Office, in addition to other researchers and PhD-level students at the IHRP.
