I år fyller NORDEM 20 år!
I den forbindelse tar vi tilbakeblikk på alt NORDEMs styrkemedlemmer har bidratt til på to tiår og vi benytter anledning til å feire dere og oss selv.
Berit Bachen Dahle, former police investigator and sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) expert, has been deployed as a gender expert to the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria.
National and central election commissions from around the world participated in NORDEMs study programme to the Norwegian Parliamentary Elections 2013.
One of the objectives of the one week long study programme was to enable the participants to make their own assessment of the Norwegian electoral process and come up with recommendations for improvement.

According to the OSCE preliminary statement, the Presidential election in Tajikistan took place peacefully, but restrictive candidacy requirement, a formalistic and largely indiscernible campaign resulted in a lack of a real choice and meaningful pluralism.
On the occasion of the 20 year anniversary, NORDEM has launched a report which provides insight into the establishment in 1993, NORDEM’s role and impact over the years, feature stories from current and past NORDEM missions and activities, and interviews with key partners and NORDEM members.
Observers from the NORDEM roster have established a network for Norwegian election observers. The network will facilitate exchange of experiences and information between election observers in Norway and will arrange seminars on election related topics. The network is independent from NORDEM but will cooperate with NORDEM on events and seminars.

NORDEM signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Development Project (UNDP) in November 2012.

This is the first time NORDEM attends this important meeting that brings together all the major organizations that work within the field of election observation. NORDEM attends in an observer capacity.
The meeting is hosted by OSCE/ODIHR and takes place i Warsaw from 17-19th September.
From 16-20 September, 25 participants from the NORDEM roster, the OSCE, the CIMIC Centre of Excellence (CCOE) and the Folke Bernadotte Academy, participated in a week-long training at Hadeland outside Oslo. The group dealt with topics such as human rights based field work, democratization and governance, international humanitarian law, gender mainstreaming, security awareness and stress and critical incident management.
Trude was brought in as Deputy Director on the basis of her former work with election observation through NORDEM, as well as due to her long political background and diverse international experience.
On June 12 and 13, NORDEM conducted a crisis management and preparedness training for its staff in Oslo. The aim of the training was to enable NORDEM to better prepare for and respond to potential local and foreign emergencies in the framework of NORDEM’s international secondments.
The training was conducted by Heymdal, experts within international risk management, and was attended by the whole NORDEM secretariat team, senior management at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights and a senior representative from the Faculty of Law management.
Maren Sagvaag Retland participated in the EU's election observation mission in Mali in July and August 2013. In their preliminary statement, the EU stated that the electoral process was well organised, that it improved significantly in the second round and that it led to a credible presidential election.
Retland tells about her experience in an interview with the Norwegian EU delegation.
The parliamentary election on 23 January was technically well organized but serious gaps in the election law call for further legal reform, stated the EU in its preliminary statement.
Eleven NORDEM election observers participate in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Election Observation Mission in Azerbaijan.
