Following a Needs Assessment Mission to Albania, the OSCE/ODIHR has decided to deploy an Election Observation Mission (EOM) to observe the local elections. The EOM will assess whether the electoral process is in compliance with OSCE commitments and other international standards for democratic elections, as well as with national legislation. Observers will monitor the legislative framework and its implementation, the work of the election administration, campaign activities, media coverage and the resolution of election disputes.

This is the first election being held since the country's recent reform of local government units and it is OSCE/ODIHR’s twelfth election observation to Albania.

The Needs Assessment Mission Report describes a polarized political environment.

Reports and press releases can be found on OSSE/ODIHR’s webpages for the mission.
