NORDEM observer to Nigeria's general elections

The EU has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to observe the General Elections in Nigeria. One of NORDEM's experienced election observer participates in this mission as a long term observer.

The EOM arrived with a core team of experts some weeks back. A total of 30 long-term observers will now be deployed throughout the country to observe and report on the electoral process. After the presidential elections on 14 February, the EOM will stay on to observe state level elections on 28 February.

A comprehensive analysis of the entire electoral process will be conducted, based on a long term observation in line with domestic law as well as regional and international standards. This analysis will include aspects covering the legal framework, the performance of the election administration, the campaign activities of the candidates and political parties, the respect of fundamental freedoms, and the conduct of the media.
