NORDEM election observers to Moldova
NORDEM is sending election observers to Moldova for the Presidential elections on the 30th of October.
Two long-term observers from NORDEM will arrive in the capital Chișinău today for the OSCE/ODIHRs election observation mission to the Moldovan presidential elections.The long-term observers were briefed prior to departure by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In total 20 long-term observers will be deployed throughout the country during the next couple of days, and the OSCE/ODIHR has requested participating States to second additional 200 short-term observers (STOs) to observe voting, counting and the tabulation of results. NORDEM aims to deploy four STOs closer to the election day.
The election observation process
The observers will be monitoring campaign activities, candidate registration and the work of the election administration and relevant governmental bodies. They will also be monitoring election-related legislation and its implementation, the media environment, and the resolution of election-related disputes in the country.
Based on the observers findings, the OSCE/ODIHR mission launches a final report with a set of recommendations after the elections.
