NORDEM is the Norwegian Resource Bank for Democracy and Human Rights and a civilian capacity provider specialized in human rights and democratization support, financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Only international observer in Eastern Ukraine
NORDEM provided 17 personnel to the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, the only international presence in the east to objectively observe and report the facts in a conflict that has so far claimed 9000 lives.
Supporting the UN and the EU
NORDEM continued to support the UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo and were proud for the first time to provide two experts, on elections and human rights respectively, to the EU External Action Service.
Historic elections in Myanmar and Nigeria
The resource bank deployed more than 100 election observers to a total of 18 election observation missions, among them the EU's first ever election observation mission to Myanmar, observing the country's historic elections in November 2015. Four NORDEM observers played a part in documenting whether these elections were carried out in accordance with international standards.
NORDEM staff observed the presidential election in Nigeria, where power was handed over from President Jonathan to President Bahari through peaceful means.
45 NORDEM experts worldwide
In 2015, NORDEM contributed a total of 45 experts to help foster good governance, democratic institutions and rule of law, with the OSCE, the UN and the EU as our major partners. NORDEM thanks the MFA, our partners and roster members for their support in 2015 and looks forward to continue our cooperation.
