NORDEM secondees are bound by
- NORDEM Terms of Appointment (Engasjementsvilkår for sekonderte NORDEM)
- the Code of Conduct for NORDEM secondees
- the receiving organisation's code of conduct and staff rules
NORDEM personnel that serve in a family duty station may be granted additional benefits in accordance with the NORDEM Terms and Conditions for Accompanying Family Members (NORDEM Vilkår for medfølgende familie).
All personnel seconded by NORDEM are insured through a comprehensive agreement with Europeiske Reiseforsikring. Insurance for Expatriates: Terms and Conditions. If NORDEM has allowed for family members to accompany the secondee, these will also be covered by the inscurance.
The insurance covers, among other things;
- Personal property
- Medical expenses for necessary medical treatment, including medical evacuation
- Illness/injury due to accidents, war, terror or political unrest
Pension entitlements and membership in the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme
All seconded personnel that are Norwegian citizens and members of the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme (Folketrygden) are members of the State Pension Fund during their assignment and contributions to their future pensions are paid during the assignment. Personnel that are not members of the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme may be members of the State Pension Fund voluntarily. Personnel that are already receiving retirement pension may be appointed on special terms, in order to avoid a reduction of their retirement pension. You can read more about the special terms here.
We encourage all personnel that are Norwegian citizens to maintain their membership in the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme during their assignment. Personnel who are working abroad for a longer period risk losing their membership in the scheme. We therefore encourage all personnel to apply to be considered mandatory members (pliktig medlem), secondarily to obtain voluntary membership. Contact NORDEM for more information and for assistance with the application.
Personnel who are not members of the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme are encouraged to secure their pension entitlements and other rights through private arrangements. For more information see the NORDEM Special Terms and Conditions for Secondees not Covered by the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme (NORDEM Særlige vilkår for sekonderte ikke dekket av norsk folketrygd).
All personnel are responsible for their own tax obligations.
Personnel who can verify that they have been working abroad for more than a year may apply to The Norwegian Tax administration for a refund of the municipality tax.
The benefit of free housing while working abroad may be subject to taxation.
Visit the Norwegian Tax Administrations’ web pages or contact your local tax office for more information.
Information about holiday/annual leave can be found in chapter 6.1. in NORDEM Terms of Appointment.
