Panel: Apostasy and Blasphemy in Islam – Voices from Within

The Oslo Coalition held a panel discussion on apostasy and blasphemy laws in Muslim countries at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights on January 14, 2013.

Following an international workshop on the same topic, the public event featured a panel of four distinguished Muslim scholars from around the world, Abdullah Saeed, Muhammad Khalid Masud, Kecia Ali and Zainal Abidin Bagir. Their introductory remarks ranged over the underlying constructions of religious law and political authority, including the often-ignored gender dimensions of the issue, and the current state of the debate and the scope for reform in countries such as Pakistan and Indonesia.
