Launch Seminar: "Keeping the Faith: A Study of Freedom of Thought, Conscience and Religion in ASEAN"

The Oslo Coalition on Freedom of Religion or Belief welcomes participants to a launch seminar for the report Keeping the Faith: A Study of Freedom of Thought, Conscience and Religion in ASEAN.

The report has been carried out by the Human Rights Resource Centre (HRRC), a non- profit academic centre headquatered at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta, with support from The Norwegian Embassy in Indonesia.

In 2012 the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) unanimously adopted the ASEAN human rights declaration. What is the status on freedom of religion in these countries today? How can the Member States and ASEAN as a regional grouping begin to honor their commitment to this freedom?

The report “Keeping the Faith: A Study of Freedom of Thought, Conscience and Religion in ASEAN” highlights these issues and provides a critical analysis of recent significant events, through which ASEAN, its Member States, and civil society organizations can reflect on both the progress made and the challenges that need to be addressed to ensure that this aspiration is fulfilled.

There will be a panel discussion with guests who have lead and coordinated the study, which has been conducted by experts on the ASEAN countries:

Dr. Jaclyn L. Neo, National University of Singapore, Faculty of Law.
Michelle Staggs Kelsall, Deputy Director, HRRC
Faith Delos Reyes, Research and Project Coordinator, HRRC
Aviva Nababan, Rule of Law Program Coordinator, HRRC
