My point of departure is both research in mixed gender prisons and (potential) research in the women’s prison under establishment in Denmark. As consequence of organizational changes in the Danish Correctional Services the conditions for doing research has changed over the last years. I will present ethical considerations, conflicts and challenges trying to plan research under these changed and changing conditions. Given my theoretical starting points, I focus on the experiences / narratives of the participants in my research namely prisoners and staff and try to understand them as intertwined with the restricted prison conditions under which they live and work.
The aims are to unfold conflictual ethical dilemmas in concrete pieces of qualitative empirical material and to analyze them as closely entangled with the conditions in the concrete prisons and the Correctional Services as a whole.
