About the webinar
This webinar will delve into the complexities of norm diffusion in non-signatory states. We will explore the various roles that UNHCR plays, from providing on-the-ground assistance to facilitating access to international protection. We will discuss the diverse strategies employed by UNHCR to promote international refugee law and encourage state engagement with the Convention.
This includes a critical assessment of the effectiveness of these strategies, especially in light of the challenges posed by short-term compromises and the potential dilution of normative obligations associated with refugee protection. As key examples, participants will spotlight UNHCR-host state cooperation agreements as "alternative protection regimes," and universities as specific sites of norm diffusion.
The webinar is open to all, but registration is required. After registration, you will receive a Zoom link to the webinar.
